Ms. Clarice Torrence
President NY Metro Area Postal Union
New York City NY
Dear President Torrence,
At the Executive board on June 20th you informed the Executive board members that internet access will be shut down due to cost. I disagree with this decision. The internet is a very important tool that we use to serve the members. It is necessary to have a DSL line in the offices of the bigger facilities to be able to serve and perform multiple tasks at once.
I have looked at the last Treasury report given out at the most recent aborted membership meeting; I would like an explanation for the following two costs: #1: Members Activity and Goodwill $13,357.60 and #2: Leslie’s Network $10,635.80.
I am requesting copies of trustee reports for the years 2005, 2006, 2007. In 2002 Renee Bost made a motion to have the building Corporation account posted in the Local Paper. This motion was passed by the membership yet the figures for this account have not appeared. Therefore, I am requesting a copy of the Building Corp. report for the last two years.
I am also requesting a list of all non-executive board members that are receiving more then 20 hours of substitution per month and the job that they are performing. You have informed the Directors and Assistant directors that when we are to conduct union business out of our normal schedule we will have to adjust our hours using a 3189. I am assuming by this letter that we will not be reimbursed without prior authorization, would this be true and if so how far in advance must we get approval?
You stated that one reason for a lack of funds is the drop in membership. DVD has been very successful over the last four years in signing-up new members. I would like an update on when or if the DVD steward and the new members are going to receive the 50 dollar bonus that was promised them. I also would like to know if your Director of Organization plans on ever visiting the facilities and organize a membership drive. I also would like to know if your Director of Organization plans on ever visiting the facilities to conduct an organizing drive?
Considering that you have not been able to get a quorum for a meeting in the last year may I suggest that you enforce Article 7 Section 33 of the Local Constitution.
I need the above information to be able to give the stewards and members at DVD an answer on why we will be downsizing the services that we provide the members.
Sincerely
Timothy Neilan
Director, DVD
