SEPTEMBER UPDATES

Attention Union Members

Voluntary Health/Dental Plans:

I am happy to announce that a contract has been signed offering a new

dental plan to the New Jersey members of the NY Metro Area Postal Union.

The plan will be available starting Monday, September 16,2006. If you

choose to participate you may sign up at: www.NYMetroDentalPlans.com.

There are thirty (30) plans available for you to choose from. The one that

offers the best rates ($74.96  self & 112.46 family) along with the most

participating dentists in this area is the Patriot Plan. You will have the

option of looking at all the plans and making your own personal choice.

If any union member does not have access to a computer, you will be

able to come in and use the union office computer. Please have your union

card, postal employee ID and pin number with you.

The second plan that will be offered to all union members is a

supplemental medical plan from Aflac. Yes, the duck! This plan was signed

by the National APWU and will be offered to all members. Each area of the

country will have different costs. We, here at DVD, will be paying at the

New York area cost which is on the lower end of the scale.

Both plans will be available at the NY Metro Area Postal Union table

during the Family Day activities on Sunday, September, 24,2006. An Aflac

representative will be present to answer any questions you may have

regarding this plan. Dental Plan information will also be available.

BIDS

Bids will once again be posted by Oct 6th, 2006. I urge anyone that is

unassigned or who has a bid in Pay Location 104,204, or 304 to take this

opportunity to bid before you are assigned a bid that you may not want. I

am in the process of negotiating with management to post a second set of

bids before the end of this year.

APWU National Biennial Convention

The major issue at this convention dealt with the nationwide

downsizing of jobs at the USPS. Management has implemented a program

to consolidate numerous postal facilities. Employees are being excessed over

100 miles. We are all aware that employees from the surrounding areas,

Elizabeth, West Jersey and Newark have been excessed into DVD. You are

also aware that many positions such as the LSM, SPBS, and now FSM

operators have or will be abolished. I, as your elected Director here at DVD

will continue to fight to have these lost jobs replaced with similar positions

and rest days on each tour.
