OCTOBER UPDATES
Attention NY Metro Members
Bids:
The results of the regular set of bids for the Newark mail
& theregular bids will be posted this week. All other Newark bids will become
effective on 10-29-06. I am negotiating with Management to have one more
set of bids posted this year.
Newark Employees:
The members of the North Jersey APWU Local that are being
excessed into DVD are scheduled to report on Saturday, 11
-18-06. Theseemployees should be made to feel welcome here at DVD since they will
most probably be a part of the DVD family for years to come.
Motor Vehicle Bids:
Normally the bids would be posted by the end of October but since we
are receiving mail from Newark the bids will be delayed until the end of
November, 2006. The runs must be adjusted since the Newark Main Office
stop will be deleted.
Nation wide Postal Consolidation Rally:
Many NY Metro Area Postal Union members domiciled in NJ will be
picketing in solidarity with the North Jersey Area Local against the
consolidation of postal facilities on Thursday, 10126106 from loam to 2pm
@
2 Federal Square, Newark, NJ. See additional flyers posted on allUnion bulletin boards. Our fellow postal brothers and sisters desperately
seek our support on this issue. The Newark postal facility is not the only
postal operation in NJ that will be affected by consolidation. Several other
NJ postal facilities are scheduled for downsizing. The NY Metro Area Postal
Union also faces losing the Bronx operation. NY Metro members from
Manhattan and the Bronx also plan to picket at the Bronx GPO from 9am to
5pm on 10-26-06. Please take time to support these workers.
Mail handlers:
1There is a letter posted on the LIUNA Local 300 bulletin board.
President Bermudez warns you that APWU plans to raid your Union. I want
to ensure you that the NY Metro Area Postal Union Local 10 voted this issue
down at the National Convention. We do not agree with the National on this
issue and will not participate in this effort. If any DVD shop steward
approaches you on this issue please notify me immediately. My goal as
Director is to work with Branch President Bermudez to present a united front to
Management. The last thing we as workers need during the current national
contract negotiations is to be fighting amongst ourselves. This serves no
positive purpose.
Station Visit:
Executive Secretary, Charles Bembry, will be here @ DVD on
Wednesday, 10-25-06 from 10 pm to 2 am to address you. He will be
accompanied by a representative from AFLAC to discuss the new benefits
available to you, the member! Sorry, the duck will not be attending.
Steward Elections:
Announcements for the NY Metro Area Postal Union Shop Steward
Elections will be posted in early November, 2006. Any Union member
interested in running must submit a certified letter to the NY Metro Area
Postal Union main office. This also applies to incumbent stewards. Please
read the Union bulletin board for further information.
