BIDS

I am meeting with management this week to get the 10th round of bids posted before the end of this year.  I am hoping they are posted by Thanksgiving. The employees from Newark are considered to be on a detail and will not have bidding rights for the first 6 months that they are assigned to DVD.  The first time that these employees will be eligible to bid will be May of 2007.

FSM UPDATE

Management’s plan to install the automated induction feeder to the FSM is still scheduled to start in late January and should be completed in April of 2007.

STEWARD ELECTIONS

The steward election postings have been in effect since 11/06/06. Any NY Metro union member interested in running for a steward position must submit their name by 11/15/06. The next step in the election process is for all candidates to choose another NY Metro union member to serve as the impartial chairperson. He/she will collect and count the votes. If for some reason the candidates cannot come to a mutual agreement on a chairperson then the election committee will appoint one.

You may have noticed that the areas that the stewards represent have changed. This is due to the changing logistics of the work force. We have lost two SPBS and one FSM machine. The remaining staffing package in these areas is smaller. The two current steward positions in each respective area must be combined in accordance with the National Agreement into one position.

Since the DBCS area has experienced an influx of employees which has almost doubled on some tours, an additional steward position will be added in this area. Changes to steward areas are a normal process. It usually occurs due to the movement of the work force. It is imperative that the union ensures that the steward staffing reflects the changes of the work force.

Some excessed Newark employees have inquired about their eligibility to run for a NY Metro shop steward position. While I am enthused to see their interest no one that was excessed to DVD from Newark will be eligible until their six month detail is up.

I respectfully request any employee that was a steward in Newark to please contact me. You can assist my office in helping your fellow members during the transition phase to DVD.
