JUNE ISSUE

Elections
On May 17, 2006 the new Union administration was sworn in for a three year term. This election was only for full and part time officers. The local shop steward elections will be conducted later this year.

BIDS

On May 22, 2006, bids were posted. Of the posted 32 jobs, 8 were newly established. The final results were posted on June 2, 2006. There still are several unassigned employees from the SPBS and FSM area. I again strongly urge these unassigned employees to seek bids on the next posting. I am working on getting the bids posted again within the next month.

APPS

The APPS machine is totally installed and will be tested during the next couple of weeks. The bid positions on this machine have been awarded to the Mailhander craft. The national APWU has filed an appeal and we are waiting for an arbitration decision.

In-House Construction

You are all aware that a wooden room has been constructed on the first floor main aisle. The reason is that the floor in this area will be repaired. The tiles that are being removed contain Asbestos materials. The purpose of the work and the air tight tent that will be constructed inside the room is to insure your safety from the Asbestos. The company that is doing the contract work is OSHA approved and licensed for abatement of Asbestos.
