FEBRUARY 2008 UPDATE

AFSM/AI

Management has informed the Union that starting the 15th, as per the settlement between Management and the Union, the realigning of the FSM will begin. The Employees that are remaining in the FSM area will be receiving their bid sheets on the 15th and the new bids will start on March 1st. The Employees that had their job abolished will retain their retreat rights and will be able to bid back into the section when vacancies occur.

FSM 1000

Management has informed the Union THAT THE FSM 1000 WILL HAVE THE HOURS OF THE NORMAL TOUR 3 AND TOUR 1. THE EXACT HOURS, RESTDAYS AND BIDS WILL BE GIVEN TO THE UNION WITHIN THE NEXT MONTH.

UNASSIGNED REGULARS

ALL UNASSIGNED REGULARS WILL BE GIVEN A BID POSITION BY FEBRUARY 27TH AND THE BIDS WILL GO INTO EFFECT MARCH 1ST.

UNION MEETING

THE MONTHLY UNION MEETING WILL BE AT 5:30 PM ON WEDNESDAY THE 20TH OF THIS MONTH. NOMINATIONS FOR THE NY STATE CONVENTION WILL BE TAKEN.

 

LOBBY

THERE IS STILL NO DATE FOR THE COMPLETION OF THE LOBBY BUT MANAGEMENT HAS STATED IT WILL BE EARLY MARCH. BOTH THE ATM AND STAMP MACHINE ARE LOCATED ON THE WEST PLATFORM.

SPBS #4

MANAGEMENT HAS INFORMED THE UNION THAT DUE TO LACK OF MAIL VOLUME SPBS#4 WILL BE PHASED OUT. THERE IS NO TIME FAME FOR THE MACHINE OR BIDS TO BE REMOVED BUT THE UNION HAS BEEN INFORMED THAT ANY VACANT BID FOR SPBS#4 WILL BE REVERTED.

UPKEEP

WHEN YOU SEE THAT A CUSTODIAN HAS A RESTROOM OR LOCKER-ROOM CLOSED OFF PLEASE REMAIN OUT OF THE AREA. IF WE WANT THE RESTROOMS AND LOCKER ROOMS MAINTAINED WE MUST GIVE THE CUSTODIANS TIME AND SPACE TO DO THEIR JOBS.

WHEN YOU ARE DONE EATING PLEASE CLEAR OFF THE TABLE SO THAT THE NEXT EMPLOYEE CAN USE IT. THE CLEANING OF THE TABLES IS NOT A CUSTODIANS JOB, THE SWINGROOM IS NOT A RESTAURANT, AND WE MUST CLEAN UP BEHIND OUR SELVES.

PRIDE

AT THE LAST LABOR/MANAGEMENT MEETING MANAGEMENT HINTED THAT NOT ALL OF THE EMPLOYEES TAKE PRIDE IN THEIR WORK AND THE UNION BACKS AND PROTECTS THESE EMPLOYEES. MY RESPONSE IS VERY SIMPLE, I TAKE PRIDE IN MY JOB AND I STRONGLY FEEL THAT ALL THE EMPLOYEES THAT I REPRESENT HAVE THAT SAME PRIDE. YES I AGREE WITH MANAGEMENT THAT WE ALL SHOULD DO EVERYTHING WE CAN TO PRODUCE AND DELIVER THE MOST MAIL IN THE LEAST AMOUNT OF TIME AND THAT WE ARE ALL RESPONSIBLE TO ENSURE THAT THE MAIL DISPATCHED IS SENT TO THE RIGHT AO’S. I INFORMED MANAGEMENT THAT AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED THIS IS BEING DONE, THAT THE CLERKS AT DVD ARE PUSHING THEMSELVES TO GET THE MAIL OUT.

WHAT I ALSO STATED IS THAT MANAGEMENT FROM THE PLANT MANAGER DOWN TO THE JUNIOR SUPERVISOR MUST ALSO ASSIST IN THIS TASK. GOOD SUPERVISION IS NOT ASSIGNING TWO CLERKS TO DO A THREE MAN JOB. GOOD SUPERVISION IS ENSURING THAT THERE IS THE PROPER MAN POWER AND EQUIPMENT TO GET THE JOB DONE IN A SAFE AND TIMELY MATTER. A GOOD SUPERVISOR WILL LISTEN TO THE EMPLOYEES IN THE AREA AND FIND OUT FROM THE ACTUAL PERSON THAT IS PERFORMING THE TASK WHAT IS NEEDED TO GET THE JOB DONE.

WE DO NOT GET PAID BY THE PIECE; WE GET PAID BY THE HOUR. THE CONTRACT STATES A FAIR DAYS PAY FOR A FAIR DAYS WORK. I HAVE AND ALWAYS WILL ENCOURAGE EMPLOYEES TO DO THERE BEST, THIS IS OUR JOB AND FUTURE AND WE ALL HAVE A STAKE IN THE OPERATION. I ASK FROM BOTH THE EMPLOYEES AND MANAGEMENT THAT TO MAKE DISPATCHES IN A SAFE AND TIMELY MATTER WE MUST WORK TOGETHER WITHIN THE CONFINES OF THE AGREED CONTRACT.
