AUGUST UPDATES

NATIONAL CONVENTION

The APWU National Convention will be held in Philadelphia from Monday, August 14^th thru Friday August 18^th, the hours will be 10:00 to 4:00. There is a visitor’s area that will let you observe the proceedings, I recommend that you take a day and come see your union at work.

BIDS

Bids will be posted the week of August 14^th, once again I encourage all unassigned clerks to bid before you are forced into a residual bid, (a residual bid is a bid that no one bids on). There will be one more set of bids before management makes the residual bids available to the excessed employees from the Newark Facility.

EXCESSED EMPLOYEES

I had a meeting with management on Thursday, August 10^th, I was informed that the employees from Newark will now be coming in November of 2006 and not in January of 2007. Due to this change; the bids of posting MP5-06 will go into affect in November. These employees will be given official notice prior to the bids taking affect.

LABOR DAY PARADE

New Metro Postal Union will be marching in the New York City Labor Day Parade; the date is September 9, 2006. I hope that we can have a good turn out from DVD, it is a day to honor us, the workers that make this country the great country that it is. Please watch the bulletin board for the time and staging area information.

WORK PROJECTS

The East Swingroom should be opening soon, I do not have an exact date, I have been informed that there is a delay in the arrival of the new tables.

The floor by pole K13 has come undone, the company that repaired this floor last month will be back to correct the problem. The tiles that have come up are not asbestos but there are tiles which abut these that have some damage and these tiles will be removed also.

COMMUNICATION

I have installed a mailbox in front of the Union office, I want to know your thoughts and input on matters. I can not always be on the three tours but if you leave me your name and Pay Location I will either come in early or stay late to see you. I am normally here between 6:30 am and 4 pm; I have no problem adjusting the hours to handle your concerns or problems.

TOUR UPDATES

Both assistant director Sharon Tyrrell and I have started doing updates on each tour, we will be coming around to the different tours the week following the National Convention. We will post time date and tour on the bulletin board prior to the talk, if there is something that you want us to address please leave a note in the mailbox.
